The Land Transportation Office officially reported this week to the House committee on transportation that it has cleared all remaining plate backlogs, both for motorcycles and motor vehicles, with the status confirmed as of May 20, 2026.

LTO Executive Director Martin Ontog presented the numbers before the committee. The agency’s 2022 backlog stood at 11.4 million motorcycle plates, 2.39 million pairs of replacement motor vehicle plates, and nearly 246,000 pairs of new motor vehicle plates. All three are now at zero.
The motorcycle plate backlog, a problem that haunted Filipino riders since 2014, was cleared first. Zero backlog on motorcycle plates was reached by June 30, 2025. Motor vehicle plates followed, clearing by May 20, 2026. Ontog also noted that 1.71 million plates flagged as inactive were classified as junk and removed from the remaining count.
Driver’s license cards are also in the clear. Ontog told the committee that current inventory is enough to cover LTO’s full operational needs for 2026, with no shortages anticipated.
On the supply side, winning plate supplier Trojan Tonnes Philippines Inc. has delivered 568,770 blank motorcycle plates, with 425,100 currently on hand. For motor vehicles, 135,000 pairs of blank plates are in stock, with 509,768 pairs still pending delivery.
This matters most to motorcycle riders. For years, many were caught in an enforcement gray zone, riding without plates through no fault of their own, while still risking fines under RA 11235. A sustained zero-backlog status takes that pressure off, at least on the production side.
Distribution is still the next real test. Getting the right plate to the right rider is a separate challenge from producing it. Riders can check their plate status at ltotracker.ph or through the eGovPH app on Android and iOS.
If you’ve been waiting for your motorcycle plate for years, this might be the moment to check. Still waiting on yours?
