Yamaha Motor has just pulled the curtain back on the 2025 YZF-R1 and YZF-R1M, both featuring MotoGP-inspired aerodynamic winglets. All these new additions are all about making the bike cut through the air smoother, handle tighter in corners, and stop with more control, staying true to Yamaha’s tradition of bringing racing tech to street bikes which what riders loved.
For the R1, we’re looking at a revamped KYB fork and new Brembo front brakes. While for the heart of the bike, the 998cc CP4 crossplane engine, remains unchanged, still delivering the high-revving excitement it’s known for. But the carbon fiber winglets are the real new deal here, adding downforce to improve stability, especially when braking hard or taking on sharp corners. There’s also a new seat cover that improves grip and rider movement.
The R1M takes it a step further with a full carbon fiber body, including those same aerodynamic winglets. It’s also equipped with Öhlins Electronic Racing Suspension (ERS), which adjusts in real-time based on speed, lean angle, and braking pressure. Whether you’re pushing it on the road or track, this system keeps the suspension dialed in for optimal performance. And for the track lovers, the built-in GPS data logging via Yamaha’s Communication Control Unit is still there. You can track lap times and performance metrics right on your phone.
What’s interesting is that these updates come just as Yamaha announced the discontinuation of the R1 and R1M in the EU by 2025. The company has decided not to develop EU5+ versions of these models, choosing instead to focus on other strategies.
The 2025 YZF-R1 comes with a price tag of $32,999 AUD (₱1.2M), while the R1M is set at $41,499 AUD (₱1.5M). Both models are expected to hit the market in February 2025.
