Yamaha rolled out the All-New Mio Gear S, with units heading to Wheeltek branches nationwide.

The big change sits in the engine bay. The new Blue Core Hybrid setup pairs the 125cc mill with a Smart Motor Generator, so the scooter gets a small electric push off the line.

Yamaha calls this Power Assist, and it helps smooth out take-offs, especially on inclines.

The next headline feature is the Stop & Start System. The engine cuts off when you idle in traffic, then fires back the moment you roll the throttle. Less idling means less fuel burned at every red light, which adds up on a daily commute.

Then there is the connected dash. The Mio Gear S carries a digital speedometer with Y-Connect, Yamaha’s Bluetooth app link.

Pair your phone and you can pull up fuel readouts, maintenance reminders, and ride data. That feature used to sit on pricier models like the NMAX and Aerox, so seeing it trickle down to a commuter scooter is notable.

On paper, the hybrid platform puts out 8.3 hp and 10.6 Nm, sent through a CVT. It carries a 5.1-liter fuel tank and 18.6 liters of underseat storage, which Yamaha bills as the largest in its class. Tubeless 110/70-12 tires sit on 12-inch alloy wheels.

At PHP 81,900, the hybrid Mio Gear S slots right into the busy 125cc commuter bracket. For context, the previous Mio Gear S sold for around PHP 84,400, so the new model actually lands a bit lower while adding the hybrid system, Stop & Start, and Y-Connect. That pricing puts it in the same conversation as the Honda Click 125i and the Mio i 125. Launch colors shown include matte grey, sand with a tan seat, yellow, and a dark grey-blue.

A hybrid commuter scooter is a real jump for the segment, and the trickle-down of Y-Connect makes the Mio Gear S feel a step above where it used to sit.

At PHP 81,900, it even undercuts the model it replaces. Would Stop & Start and a connected dash be enough to pull you away from a Honda Click or your current ride? Or do you still want a price drop before you commit? Drop your thoughts in the comments.
