MetorBike: A Cafe-Racer Styled Electric Moped That Sounds Like a Motorcycle

Listen to article

The Metorbike, a limited-edition electric moped, blends the style of a café racer with innovative features. Handcrafted in a Hamburg workshop, it offers a unique ride, complete with simulated engine sounds.

Brought to life by two friends in Hamburg, Germany, the Metorbike showcases the perfect blend of old-school café racer aesthetics with the benefits of modern technology.

One of the Metorbike’s unique features is its use of a controller area network (CAN) sound module. This module simulates the sounds of various engines, a trait typically absent from electric vehicles. Riders can choose from a range of noises, like the sound of V6, V8, and V10 car engines, bringing an exciting acoustic element to the otherwise usual quiet ride.

Under the hood, the Metorbike is powered by a 2kW brushless DC motor, delivering a peak power of around 9.3 horsepower. With 17-inch spoked wheels fitted with Kenda retro tires, this bike can reach a top speed of approximately 49.5 kilometers per hour. The bike is equipped with a repurposed battery, boasting a respectable range of around 60 kilometers.

In addition, the Metorbike comes with modern comforts for riders. It includes a keyless RFID chip, a digital speedometer with a touchscreen, and the option to install a GPS tracker as an anti-theft device. The bike also offers customizable options like illuminated logos, milled aluminum switch gears, and the choice of a full leather seat, ensuring each Metorbike is unique to its owner.

Starting at about €7,749 (~PHP 472k), the Metorbike’s production is currently limited to just 50 units and is only available in Germany. Despite its niche market and limited availability, the Metorbike is a compelling blend of style, innovation, and sustainable mobility. I will not be surprised if the limited slot is full by now.
