Imagine a motorcycle that stays upright even when nobody’s holding the handlebars. That’s the OMO X, and it just rolled out in Jakarta this week.

Built by Singapore-based Omoway, the OMO X is being called the world’s first mass-produced self-balancing electric motorcycle. It uses an aerospace-grade Control Moment Gyroscope, the same type found on satellites, paired with reinforcement learning algorithms that keep the bike upright at any speed, even at a full standstill.
Sales officially kicked off in Indonesia after pre-orders opened on April 25. Omoway says over 4,000 units were reserved in the first hour, enough to briefly take down its own app.
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. The OMO X comes in two flavors. The Smart variant skips the self-balancing tech and starts at Rp44.5 million off-the-road, roughly PHP 152,000. The Balance variant packs the gyroscope and goes for Rp61.5 million, about PHP 210,000. Early bird buyers get a Rp9 million subsidy, bringing the Smart down to around Rp35.5 million.
Power comes from a 13 kW (17.6 hp) motor pushing 320 Nm of torque. Omoway claims a 0 to 50 km/h sprint in 3.3 seconds and a top speed of 113 km/h. Range depends on which battery you pick, 160 km WMTC on the standard 5.38 kWh pack, or 210 km on the 7.68 kWh long-range option.
Behind the brand is a team of former XPeng executives, the Chinese EV firm known for its smart sedans. Production happens in Balaraja, Tangerang, and Omoway has already built a dealer network of more than 100 locations across Jakarta, Bandung, Surabaya, and Bali. The company also picked up an iF Design Award 2026 ahead of launch.
There’s no word yet on Philippine availability. But with Southeast Asia listed as Omoway’s first core market, it could eventually join the growing wave of electric two-wheelers from brands like Gogoro and VinFast already eyeing local roads.

So, would you trust a motorcycle that balances itself, or does the idea of letting go of the bars feel a little too sci-fi for comfort? If Omoway eventually rolls the OMO X into Philippine dealerships, would you pick it over a gas-powered scooter at the same price? Drop your thoughts in the comments below.
