Honda PH and HPMC Merger Moves to Secure No. 1 Spot Amid Rising Motorcycle Demand

Listen to article

Honda Philippines, Inc. (HPI) is merging with their longtime manufacturing arm, Honda Parts Manufacturing Corporation known as (HPMC), as part of a strategic realignment to keep its lead in the Philippine motorcycle industry.

Motorcycle sales in the Philippines have been climbing fast, with total industry sales hitting 1.72 million units in the last fiscal year, and Honda alone accounting for more than 945,000 of those.

Meaning, that’s over 55% of the market, if you think about it every other motorcycle on the road is likely a Honda.

With numbers hitting like that, it makes sense they’re tightening operations to stay lean and agile.

Once this merger gets the green light from the SEC, Honda’s full assembly operations in Batangas and HPMC’s parts facility in Laguna will function as a single unit.

Which means less supply gap, faster rollout, and better alignment between production and demand; especially for fast-moving models like scooters, which now dominate over 60% of sales locally.

From an industry perspective, this is Honda future-proofing its local footprint.

While some brands are still focused on importation or semi-local setups, Honda is clearly betting on deeper localization and manufacturing scale.

This isn’t their first pivot either, remember when they shut down their car plant in Sta. Rosa in 2020 to optimize regional production?

This time though, they’re doubling down on two-wheelers, which is where the growth is really happening.

As of the moment, no major changes were announced for dealers or pricing just yet, but this kind of structural integration usually leads to better cost control and faster time-to-market.

For riders and resellers alike, that’s worth watching.
