President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and local governments in Metro Manila to provide a grace period in imposing penalties for e-bikes, e-trikes, and other affected vehicles passing through certain roads in the metro.

According to Marcos, the grace period is necessary to allow for the wide dissemination of information regarding the implemented ban on these vehicles in select major thoroughfares. The president stated that while the identified vehicles will remain prohibited under MMDA Regulation No. 24-022 series of 2024, the grace period will mean no ticketing, fining, or impounding of e-trikes during this time.

The goal, Marcos explained, is to properly guide drivers on which roads they can use and to remind them of the new regulations aimed at enhancing safety and order on the streets. The president’s directive comes amid growing concerns over the integration of e-mobility solutions and the need to balance transportation policies with the needs of commuters and road users in the bustling metropolis.
