China’s AW has unveiled two new models for the middleweight naked bike segment: the AW 500N and the AW 500R. These bikes are powered by a 471 cc parallel-twin engine that produces 47 hp and are expected to compete with the popular Honda CB650R and Yamaha MT-07.
The AW 500N and AW 500R are the latest products from the Chinese motorcycle manufacturer that was founded in 2015. The company claims to have a strong R&D team and a global vision, aiming to create high-quality motorcycles that meet the needs of different markets.
AW 500N and AW 500R Features
The new models feature a liquid-cooled, DOHC, four-valve engine that is paired to a six-speed gearbox. The bikes have a steel trellis frame, upside-down forks, monoshock rear suspension, dual-channel ABS, LED lights, TFT display and keyless ignition. The bikes also have a distinctive design, with sharp lines, angular shapes and aggressive headlights.
The AW 500N is the naked version, with a minimal fairing and a single headlight. The AW 500R is the sportier version, with a full fairing and a dual headlight. The bikes have a curb weight of 195 kg and a fuel capacity of 15 liters. The bikes have a claimed top speed of 170 km/h and a fuel consumption of 3.8 liters per 100 km.
The AW 500N and AW 500R are expected to launch in China in late 2023, with a price tag of around $5,000 (~PHP 277k ). The bikes are also planned to enter the European market in early 2024, where they will face stiff competition from the established Japanese brands. The company hopes to attract customers who are looking for an affordable, stylish and powerful middleweight bike.
