The Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) 2023 rolled into the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from October 19 to 21. It was a place where new EV tech and products came into the light. Local and regional EV players brought their latest to the table. There was more than just showing and telling. It was about moving the EV agenda forward in the Philippines.
The new law says companies and government bodies need at least 5% of their fleet as EVs. There are also perks like special parking spots, charging stations in buildings, and easier franchise processes for public transport fleets.
A big part of the summit was the launch of the UNIDO Project. This project wants to speed up the use of electric vehicles for cleaner cities. EVAP President Edmund Araga said, “Our partner, the Department of Energy, is actively pushing for a faster rollout of EV use nationwide under its Comprehensive Roadmap for the Electric Vehicle Industry or CREVI, which is serving as our ‘north star’ for wider and more concise implementation of the EVIDA Law.”
The numbers tell a good tale. As of October 2022, about 15,300 EV units were on the road. By 2030, the goal is to have over 6.6 million units. The summit also talked about plans by different departments to push EVs more.
PEVS 2023 had a lot going on. New vehicle launches, talks, and the latest EV tech on display. It was a clear step towards a greener transport future in the Philippines.
