The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will summon the organizers of the BOSS Ironman Motorcycle Challenge (BIMC) after several road incidents, including one fatal crash, were reported during the event in Mindanao.
The BMW Owners Society of Saferiders (BOSS), which organizes the annual endurance ride, has been issued a Show Cause Order. The group is required to explain why it shouldn’t be held accountable for the accidents and reported traffic violations.
According to LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao, participants were caught overspeeding, running red lights, and using unauthorized sirens and blinkers, or “wang-wang.” He said these actions put many people in danger and violated traffic laws.
The LTO also requested BOSS to submit the names of riders involved in the violations. The Show Cause Order is expected to be released within the day.
The BOSS Ironman returned to Mindanao after a two-year break. It remains popular among motorcycle fans but has a history of safety problems. Past events also faced complaints about traffic violations, reckless riding, and clashes with local authorities.
