Recently, we were invited by Honda Philippines Inc. to participate in the Honda Click 160 Test ride experience which took place at the Honda Safety Driving Center in Paranaque City.

First Ride of the Honda Click 160

During the event, I had the opportunity to test the capabilities and features of the 2022 Honda Click 160. However, I should mention that we had a time constraint and the track was supervised, so we had to stick to specific speed limits and stay on course. Despite these restrictions, I was still able to get a complete understanding of the vehicle’s capabilities.

Design and Aesthetics

First, let’s discuss the new changes. The Honda Click 160 retains its sporty and aggressive appearance from any angle, thanks to its edgy and striking design. Its body is now constructed with the new Enhanced Smart Architecture Frame (eSAF) to match its aesthetics. While the headlights remain LED, they now have a minimalist look compared to its previous generation, which is a significant change for both Headlight and Tailight. Also, they still managed to retain the flat foot area of the scooter, functionality wise you can put your groceries and backpack during your day-to-day commute.

Honda decided to use matte texture design and only available in three colors Matte Pearl Crater White, Matte Gunpowder Black Mettalic and Matte Solar Red Metallic. I’m a big fan of matte colors but I do hope they also add pastel and light colors soon.

In terms of the wheels it now sports a new cast wheel design and wider tires, for the front tire its now 100/80-14M/C 48P while the rear is a 120/70-14M/C 61P both still are tubeless. They also added a USB Charging port on the left side console box or glove compartment and can fit your smartphones plus its quite deep compared to the one on the right side plus they added now cover for the left slot which can be open by just pressing it.

If you look at the side they have upgraded the logo to a premium 3D emblem, compared to its predecessors which are all stickers. and last but not the least is the sporty muffler design which is bit a aggressive looking which is a nice touch. of course engine has also improved but more on that later.

Compartment can fit only half size helmets, unfortunately full face helmets can still fit but you won’t be able to lock the seat. there’s still a lot of minor changes both in and out but will dive into that once we have a full review of this unit.

Technology and Features

This machine is now using a 157cc Single cylinder, 4 Stroke, 4-Valve, eSP+, Liquid cooled engine, CVT using a PGM-FI (Programmed Fuel Injection), with a Maximum Power of 11.3kW @ 8,500rpm and a Maximum Torque of 13.8 Nm @ 7,000rpm with a Full Transistorized Ignition system. It still has a smart key system for anti-theft and keyless features which can still sense the bike up to two meters away.

The gauge cluster panel remains fully digital with two physical buttons for navigation. However, the brake system still utilizes a combi or combined braking system (CBS) which is reliable and operates seamlessly. It would be great if Honda Philippines could also introduce the ABS variant in the local market.

The park brake lock and idling stop system (ISS) is still available to assist in reducing fuel consumption. Essentially, when activated, the engine will pause every five seconds of being idle and can be restarted by simply twisting the throttle. While this feature may take some getting used to for some, as it may seem like the engine suddenly stops for no reason, but with practice it can prove to be quite useful.

Acceleration and Performance

With its upgraded engine featuring higher displacement of 157cc, 4-stroke and 4-valve technology, the acceleration, torque, and power of this vehicle are significantly improved. When you apply pressure to the throttle, the acceleration is noticeable, but not overly aggressive.

honda click 160 27

Despite the slightly larger body of the scooter, it still maintains a premium feel and can easily reach 40kph in just a few seconds. It should be noted that during our initial track test, we were unable to exceed 60km/h, so we still have to test it further and put it to its pace.

Moreover, the track features an uphill section designed to test the bike’s ability to handle steep angles. Astonishingly, the Honda Click 160 effortlessly soared through this segment and even maintained its position. This feature proves to be extremely beneficial, especially when waiting in crowded mall parking lots during peak hours. (That’s just once use case)

Handling and Maneuverability

honda click 160 28

The Honda Click 160 grabbed my attention due to its lightweight body and slim form factor, making handling and maneuvering an absolute breeze. The bike’s smooth cornering and easy turning make it an ideal choice for daily commutes, effortlessly navigating through traffic and tight corners. Additionally, the larger wheels and tires provide enhanced stability, adding to the overall riding experience.

Comfort and Ergonomics

I’m 5’8″ tall, but my foot seems to be slightly tiptoe unless I sit at the edge of the seat in front. However, when I ride my Yamaha R15m, I’m flat-footed, which surprised me. I believe this is because of the thicker seat and wider base. Nonetheless, it doesn’t bother me much because the bike’s seat has thick foam, making it very comfortable. Additionally, the seating position is upright, making it convenient for long rides.

When it comes to the suspension, it’s a little on the softer side. However, having ridden Sports Bikes with harder suspensions, I can easily compare the difference in how soft and bouncy scooters can feel. Despite this, I still find the overall ride to be very comfortable and to my liking.

Safety and Braking

So, during the track test, there’s this one part where we gotta speed up to 40km/h and then slam on the brakes once we hit near the end of the track.

honda click 160 29

The Honda Click 160 utilizes the combination brake system (CBS), also referred to as combi brake. When the left lever is pressed hard, both the front and back brakes are applied, resulting in smoother and safer braking. However, it should be noted that unlike ABS systems, CBS does not provide instant brakes during emergency braking situations. Personally, I have had many close calls where ABS systems have saved me from accidents. While combi brakes are still considered safe, users may notice a significant difference in sudden high-speed braking once they have experienced an ABS system.

During a conversation with a Honda representative, it was mentioned that there is a variant of the product available in other countries with ABS capability. However, it is uncertain if this will ever be introduced in the Philippine market. It’s possible that if there is enough demand for it, Honda may consider bringing it over. It’s worth exploring the possibility.

Fuel Efficiency and Range

honda click 160 32

Based on Honda’s lab test results, the Click 160 showcases a remarkable fuel efficiency rate, averaging at around 47 kilometers per liter. This is particularly impressive, considering that the fuel tank capacity is only 5.5 liters. However, we still have to test this further during our full review.

Overall Riding Experience

honda click 160 31

That concludes our first-ride impressions of the Honda Click 160. Despite our limited time with the scooter, we can confidently say that its impressive performance, fuel efficiency tech, and riding comfort versatility will undoubtedly make it a popular choice for a lot of people. However, we still need to conduct further tests before giving our final verdict. Are you considering purchasing the Honda Click 160, or will you wait for its next generation model? Let us know in the comment section below, and feel free to ask any questions. Will be glad to answer it as much as we can.
