The Metro Manila Development Authority makes changes to electric vehicle rules. The MMDA approved new Regulation No. 24-022 series of 2024 for Metro Manila. The regulation prohibits the use of e-bikes, e-trikes and small electric vehicles on major roads. These include national roads and circumferential and radial roads in the city.
The new rules could impact the growing number of electric bikes and trikes in the capital region. But Gogoro Philippines clarifies how the regulation applies to their electric motorcycles. Gogoro produces the SuperSport, Delight and S2 Premium models. These electric motorcycles are different from other electric vehicles. Gogoro says they are classified as L3 vehicles by the Land Transportation Office.
L3 vehicles can go over 50 kilometers per hour. Because of this, the law treats them differently. Gogoro motorcycles need registration with the LTO. Riders or owners also require a driver’s license to use them. Even with the new MMDA rules, Gogoro bikes can still use all types of roads. This includes national roads and circumferential and radial roads where smaller electric vehicles are now banned. Expressways remain off limits to all electric vehicles.
Gogoro Philippines stressed their dedication to cooperating closely with the MMDA and other government organizations in the country, with the aim of guaranteeing road safety and ensuring strict compliance with all traffic rules and regulations. This would help ensure a safer and better-organized traffic system for all drivers and passengers in Metro Manila.
