Engine Type

Let’s kick things off by examining the engine types. The FKM Falcon X400 is equipped with a ParallelTwin Cylinder, DOHC Water Cooled, 8 Valves engine, whereas the Dominar 400 UG2 is powered by a Single-Cylinder, DTS-i, DOHC, Liquid-Cooled, 4 Stroke engine.

But take note while more cylinders typically result in higher fuel consumption, this also usually lead to less vibration. So, the decision will depend on which factor you consider to be more important.

Tech Features & Accessories

Moving on to tech features and accessories, both motorcycles have their own unique advantages. The Dominar 400 UG2 comes with a host of accessories that were usually purchased separately by first-generation users, including a USB port, LED headlamp, phone holder, top box bracket, improved leg guard, belly plate, taller windshield, and new handguard. These features are all now included as standard in the latest generation UG2. On the other hand, the Falcon X400 offers a unique front camera, a feature that is quite uncommon at this price point.

Lighting

In terms of headlamps, both motorcycles are equipped with LEDs, but the design and aesthetics differ, making this a matter of personal preference.

Power & Torque

Now when it comes to power and torque of these two motorcycles are almost identical, although the Dominar UG has a slight advantage in terms of maximum power. But this difference is so marginal that it is barely unnoticeable.

Display & Clutch Type

The display panel on the Falcon X400 is a TFT color LCD, while the Dominar features a digital instrumental panel. Additionally, the clutch type on the Dominar 400 UG2 is a slipper clutch, whereas the Falcon X400 does not have one.

Fuel Capacity & Brake System

In terms of fuel capacity, the Falcon X400 has a larger 15-liter tank, while the Dominar UG2 has a 13-liter capacity. The brake system on the Falcon is also superior, featuring a Dual Disc + ABS Front, whereas the Dominar 400 UG2 has a single disc but still offers ABS.

Dimensions & Weight

Examining the overall dimensions, the Falcon X400 is more compact compared to the Dominar. Even the ground clearance is higher on the X400, measuring 170mm, compared to the Dominar’s 157mm. This makes both motorcycles suitable for adventure-type riding and city or “baha” moments.

The kerb weight of the Dominar 400 UG2 is unknown due to its many accessories. The 182kg weight is based on the first generation, so it will likely be heavier compared to the 185kg of the Falcon X400.

Color Options

A significant factor for some buyers is the color options available. The first generation of the Dominar 400 in the Philippines was only available in one color, which left many Dominar owners longing for more choices. However, the FKM Falcon X400 is available in four different color options, all of which are quite eye-catching.

Editors Note

So, after this initial apples-to-apples comparison, which motorcycle offers better value for the price of PHP 208,000?

Based on the specifications, the FKM Falcon X400 appears to have more advantages over the Dominar 400 UG2. It boasts a parallel twin cylinder, colored TFT display, dual disc ABS brake system, 8-valves, front camera, more aggressive and futuristic design, and a variety of color options.

However, it’s important to remember that most users do not only consider the specifications but also the after-sales service and maintenance costs. The Kawasaki Dominar 400 has a reputation for reliability and affordable maintenance costs.

Even though FKM has a smaller user base and is relatively new to the market, it still has already gained popularity in other countries. But this is still a consideration for potential buyers.

So! what do you think? Does the FKM Falcon X400 offer better reliability and advantages over the highly popular Kawasaki Dominar 400?
