Peugeot unveiled new prototype. Called the SPx, the concept draws inspiration from Peugeot’s 103 moped of 1971. That small vehicle then provided independence and freedom to many French citizens lacking public transport options.
Fifty years later, Peugeot’s values shifted to sustainability, minimalism, and social duty. The SPx embraces these with an electric powertrain and lightweight aluminum unibody. Its design hints at a futuristic machine while honoring past roots. Specs stay unknown but performance likely mimics a 125cc gas bike for urban travel.
A cantilever fork and single-sided swingarm lend modern flair to the prototype. Peugeot says the SPx embodies mobility freeing people just as the 103 did decades ago. Updated circumstances in today’s world mean electric power and reduced environmental impact instead of petroleum.
The company grows quickly after recent ownership changes. Mutares’ acquisition expanded Peugeot’s reach in Europe with commuter scooters and three-wheeled models. The brand then entered premium and beginner motorcycle segments. Whether the SPx advances from concept to sales floors stays unseen.
But the prototype engages and sparks intrigue as a glimpse of Peugeot’s electric future.
